The vines were put to the test with heat and drought which favored the production of particularly healthy grapes with a good balance between acidity and freshness.
It all started with a mild, dry winter leading to an early budburst.
The spring frosts at the beginning of April were well controlled with our 3 wind turbines.
Spring was mild and wet.
Very favorable flowering (end of May) occurs in dry and hot conditions and very quickly. The vine in great state then sees its grapes set with the prospect of a very good harvest.
With a significant water reserve for the year 2021, the vines demonstrated a very good resistance during the summer which was hot and very dry. The well-controlled plant cover allowed us to create a mulch which reduced water stress and thus allowed the vines to carry out their veraison in a very homogeneous manner.
The drought was present until the harvest, which led to an early harvest in perfect health with grapes whose average weight was 15 to 20% lower than the usual average.
The harvest of red grapes began on September 19 with the Merlots and ended on October 12 with the Cabernets Sauvignon. The harvest was good but not as abundant as hoped due to the weight of the berries being lower than normal.
The juices are rich and balanced with a nice acidity; signs of a great vintage.
Removing sulphites during vatting allows us to obtain an authentic aromatic expression, reflecting our terroir.
To reinforce the fruity character and in order to obtain concentrated wines with silky tannins, we experimented the infusion technique which consists in letting the marc infuse in the vats without further intervention. The extractions (polyphenols, aromas and color) are thus carried out very gently.
The harvest of white grapes was early between August 27 and 30. Sweet and showing a brilliant aromatic potential, they were collected in perfect sanitary condition.
The wines have the concentration of a sunny vintage and assertive notes of black and red fruit. The expression of the fruit is sunny but fresh with a nice acidity. These are wines with a deep and intense color. Long aging wines.
With perfect health and nights which remained quite cool we have a very aromatic wine with great concentration and lots of freshness. Fruity Sauvignon with aromas of exotic fruits and muscadelle bringing its touch of complexity with notes of fruit and white flowers.
