Château Puyfromage

Vintage 2014

Softness and Smoothness

Millésime Rosé et Millésime RougeWeather conditions : Hope… Worry… and Miracle

After a cool and wet winter, the budburst happens early, in March, which is ten days earlier than the last decade average and more than twenty days earlier than for the vintage 2013.
The vegetative cycle starts on a fast pace with a very beautiful month of April. This earliness is promissing for the vintage… Hope
But the cooler days at the end of May neutralise the head start from the beginning of the season.
The flowering is happening slowly leading to flower abortion and millerandage for the Merlots.
The summer is capricious, especially in August with a cool and wet weather… Worry

Miracle… a new moon establishes a lasting anticyclone; the expected summer is finally here in September, thereby lifting all our worries.
Two sunny and dry months, with warm days (28-30°C) and cool nights, help the grappes reach a very nice maturity.
-the Merlots on a very ripe fruit
-the Cabernets on soft and silky tanins

Harvest and vinification 2014  :

The harvest took place between the 2nd and  the 16th of Octobre
The wines were vinified in a traditional way.
We focused a lot of energy on controlling the temperatures in the tanks. Cool temperatures let us extract the aromas and the colour. And a long maceration at a controlled temperature ( 28-29°C), gave the wines structure and tanins.

The wines reveal beautiful aromas and a fruity freshness with a high anthocyane content.

A newcomer for 2014 : Puyfromage Rosé.
Small winebatch collected from plots selected for their freshness and their fruit. Elaborated at low temperature  (fermentation at 18°C) in order to preserve all the freshness.
This wine brings together the energy of a rosé and the mellowness of the grapes from the clay-limestone soil.
