- From the vines to the wine
- History and points of interest
After a harsh winter and a mild spring, the vintage 2017 promises to be early with a bud break at the beginning of April. Frosts of rare intensity occur in April on the nights of the 27th and the 28th. Those frosts cause extensive damage on all our plots.
Progressively nature takes back her rights: the warm spring favors a fast growth of the vine. The early flowering (begining of June) was quick and homogeneous. After a very hot month of June, July and August will be marked by series of hot days and cooler ones; this alternation generates good maturation conditions. The veraison is early and particularly homogeneous from early August. September was cool with several rainy episodes.
The vintage is precocious; the harvest starts at the end of August for the whites and on the 25th of September for the reds.
The harvest was organized in two rounds to take into account the different maturities caused by the frost. The yields are small.
The sanitary quality of the grapes and the hygiene conditions implemented made it possible to reduce sulphiting as much as possible. The alcoholic fermentation was conducted under excellent conditions with a temperature limited to 28 ° C.
The macerations were adapted to the potential of each plot in order to preserve fruit and suppleness and to extract aromas and color.
The white wine is fresh, intense and very expressive. A very beautiful vintage.
For the red wine, Merlot are fruity and well balanced. Cabernet have a good aromatic freshness, a tannic structure and a nice density. The result gives a vintage with a beautiful aromatic expression, color and fruit. On the palate suppleness and roundness dominate.
